| More bullshit from old sources. |
[Oct. 12th, 2009|11:20 pm] |
I haven't posted here in a while, but I can't resist, I just watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN9zpf5cT0M&feature=player_embedded#
And I can't believe my ears, Darwin and Hitler have a connection these days? This is the biggest utter bullshit, these creationists are gigantic liars. Here's how it happened:
Darwin's book "origin of species" was translated to German with a lot of differences. To be exact, whole sections were altered and changed to conform more to Hitler's idea of the master Race. The original book namely goes against the idea of a master Race, an ubermensch, so the germans back then were completely against it. The German translation included focus on racial superiority and included a lot of social darwinistic ideas. Social Darwinism was something Darwin himself notably disagreed with.
Only creationists can imagine a connection that doesn't exist, while ignoring the slaughter and slavery that is supported by the Bible (Slavery btw, was also something that Darwin was completely against, his voyage on the Beagle was close to not happening, purely because the captain of the Beagle had no problem with slavery, but Darwin did).
But that's not even worst, the creationists are putting their focus on the origin of species, a book written long ago, a book who explains ideas, that have long been improved upon. Darwin didn't have genetics. Darwin didn't have that many fossils. Darwin was wrong or close but wrong on a lot of details, and those have been corrected in time through more discovery.
I simply shake my head at the creationists, because throughout the years, there's only been one site, one creationist group that actually had the guts to do real science, to ask the real questions and come up with scientifically supported answers, and most important of all, to accept good science and not make up horrible science. That group is: www.answersincreation.org
If you are a creationist, and you want a truly unbiased view, go there, because unlike Answers In Genesis and others, it has the guts to do science.

| Science time with Zuca.. Carbon dating! |
[Jun. 1st, 2009|10:07 am] |
|
Hello there, Let me start off with some basics on science in general. Science in general uses many tools to observe the world with, these tools, or rather, the results from these tools are called observations. In life, everyone works with observations, everyone works with tools to make observations, sometimes these are our own tools like the nose, our ears, our eyes. Sometimes they are enhanced tools, spectrophotometers, microscopes, etc etc. One thing anyone should easily understand, is that every tool has its use, but most importantly, also its misuse, you can’t smell food with your eyes, you can’t look at bacteria with your eyes, etc etc. These are of course very logical things but they can get more complicated, for instance: You can’t always smell or taste or see if something is poisonous, with some things you can, but others you can’t. This factor, of what we can and cannot do, defines the limits of our capabilities, we can’t sniff out cocaine from 50 meters away, though a dog can, our smell is limited to a specific range in smell, different from that of dogs. When you apply these basic principles on scientific techniques, you will find that every tool, every use has its own limits, for carbon dating, there are limits in dating range (how old or young a sample can be) and in sample kinds. For the dating range, we’re dealing with dates in between 50.000 years and 150 years old. The method becomes unreliable beyond and before those ages, and there’s reasons for that just as there are reasons why you can’t sniff out cocaine from 50 meters way. For Carbon dating, the reasoning behind these limits can be very simply put: 1. Anything after 50.000 years, has such a small amount of carbon14 that is detectable, that it will become more and more unreliable, the further you go. 2. Anything before 150 years old will have to deal with an increase in carbon14 due to the budding industrialization that has been pumping it into the atmosphere, thus making it near impossible to calculate the age. On top of this reasoning, is the fact that carbon dating has been verified up to around 10.000 years using samples from: Tree ring data, ice cores, Lake varves and more. All these have their own dating methods and the results from these dating methods all correlate perfectly. Meaning that 10.000 years of carbon dating correlates perfectly with: Tree ring dating, Ice core dating, Lake Varve dating, These are all independent dating methods and the chance that these would all correlate so perfectly is nearly non existent. In the light of such evidence (and there is more then just these examples), we can conclude that carbon14 dating is very accurate within the limits, and very inaccurate outside of those limits. I can also very easily say that all misuse of the dating method automatically results in the invalidity of its result. Logical, no? |

I realize that I never really gave a good idea of where I’m living right now, so how about we do that, huzzah! I’m in Strasbourg, that much is clear of course, and Strasbourg is in France, close to the German and Swiss border. My current residence is a large flat (one of the biggest in the city), on the tenth floor, overseeing a lot of the city and even the mountains further away. And now, lemme spam some pictures! |

Being from europe, reading about how florida is planning to "save money" by making big axe cuts in universities, it is pretty humorous to me, because if I add up the numbers, even though it might save up money on the short term, it will definitely not help bring in more money on the long term.
One of the proposals is a severe cut in geology programs, nearly crippling them completely, can you imagine, within a year you might go to a university and you can't pick geology anymore, it'll be gone, and all the geological advancements in Florida will require outside support.. How is that saving up? How is that a good thing ? |

| Feeling charitable? |
[Apr. 7th, 2009|02:39 pm] |
Looking around, seeing all kinds of companies "helping out" third world counties by donating food, clothes, money, etc etc etc.. But somehow they all make you sigh because all of them deal with a "monthly/yearly/weekly" plan, taking your hard earned (hopefully) cash every new period. So you don't play their game, you don't donate money and apart from the street bum every now and then, you feel you need to do something to make the world a better place, something under your rules, with your own chosen amounts of money and no subscriptions and magazines thanking you and showing you how your work saves thousands of people you don't even know.
Well, there is something for you, and it is called micro loaning.
A micro-loan is a personal loan you hand out to a specific group or person in a third world company, this person has a plan with this money and will use it to build a company, get a business going, get a farm built up, anything really. Your loan will be part of many that will help that person or group build up their life, their profession and if things go well, build up a profit which will allow them to pay you back.
So in short, you're giving money that might be returned to you AND which is helping a person in a third world country grow, you will be able to follow the development of the project and you can genuinely feel proud for helping someone you do know about.
Micro loaning isn't for everyone, but I personally feel it is a better option then a lot of the "support" that bigger companies provide through subscriptions of its members.
www.kiva.org
This is one of the sites that do micro loaning.. Take a look around.. I won't be the one thanking you if you do it, the ones you loan the money to will. |

| Evolution and the rascist issue. |
[Mar. 29th, 2009|02:03 pm] |
|
Many creationist sources often speak of evolution being the underlying principle behind the holocaust, behind many rascistial problems in the past and today. Or in reality, they believe evolution is used as an excuse for such practices.. The holocaust was possible because “evolution” was used as an excuse to validate the hatred and actions in the second world war. Link to AIG about holocaust and evolution Now if we continue with AIG (Answers in Genesis), we’ll find a very specific gem of information, namely that AIG accepts natural selection and evolution “within kinds”.. Now for real biologists the word “kinds” has no meaning and no creationist has ever given a specific definition of the word. But thats not a problem at all. We know that humans are one kind in the creationism eyes, and this is the thing that poses a problem, why? Because if they accept the fact that humans involved “within kind” to be different racially, then they are supporting the underlying idea that they say fuelled the holocaust. If evolution is rascist, then creationism is just as rascist. |

| This just saddens me. |
[Mar. 12th, 2009|03:36 pm] |
People like this sadden me, they seriously are not equipped to discuss anything and just put their religion to shame:
(I'm not really good at English grammar, because I'm from Phil.) I dont really believe in evolution 'cause it is only made by man from the present talking about the past or where we came from. i rather believe my ancestor who is at the past. I believe in God who created the world in 6 days, not 100billion years(how did they counted that?) by big bang and evolution. People from the past never said or wrote that they learn how to speak or write by themselves, do a baby learn how to speak if he/she was with his/her fellow baby? I think not, God created the languages(if you read the Bible you will learn about the "Tower of Babel",many people at the past make a tower so they could reach God, so God came down and confound their languages and scattered them around the world ,and now we all have different languages). Darwin created the evolution theory, but he is an atheist, he is only manipulated by devil. He only invent the idea of the evolution he don't have a proof. Some said the fossild are the proof, the fossils are created after the "Great Genesis" many people and unknown animals died during that flood, there is a the Bible said waters underneath the earth burst out, so maybe thats why we have volcanoes and canyons, another proof is the the division of the continents. Human dont came from monkeys cause they are very deferent.Monkeys can't talk, monkeys are hairy, monkeys can't make houses.Human can talk because of the languages and tongue God created, Humans have few hair, humans make houses to leave, humans is alive until now because of God provided our needs. almost monkeys(,or ape) and peoples are the very slightly the same but monkeys are created to help men take care of the forest, they eat fruits and the seeds drops to the ground and there goes another tree. look of how God created everything but men don't know it. God is very humble so he didn't come down and talk to people making miracles to apreciate him He don't need us He is just testing us(maybe angels undergoes this stage to)we can't be a fail creation, People now like them called god so they make their own theory(they are the ones who forget God. can anyone believe me if I'll say my own theory based from nothing like this: Aliens came from another planet and landed of earth they decided to make a human like themselves. And also other species from their planet. and the earth is born. alien made a moon so they will navigate us(like a satellite) without noticing them and also under ground using the caves, there is a lab underneath earth created by aliens. Do you believe me? ,but i will not believe this also I'm only invent it just like them but not true, i dont see them its only an imagination of mine just like Darwin. For Those Computer Gamers Like me: I'll compare life as a game and God is the designer,or creator of this big world(a free-roam game)but there is a bug or a virus" THE devil" we must fight it. Scientist of the evolution theory today are infected by The Virus it erases the memory bank so they may think there is no God, and prefer to make their own creation. I say this to you there is a hotfix for this: we must trust Christ(the Savior, God the Son)as Savior and Lord of our lives who is crucified by man to make the heaven's door open and washed our sin so we can go to heaven(secret room). It is the is a very difficult procedure but thats the Greatest fix.We can install that fix if we trust Jesus Christ as Lord, and Savior who saved us from our sin and turn from sin whit his help not by our self .and if you done installing it correctly you will no be in HELL any more. So those who don't believe fell the wrath of God on his Second Coming(read the last book of the Bible the Revelation and you will know your punishment and those who believe know also your reward.

| I realized something |
[Mar. 9th, 2009|09:41 am] |
|
(This is from experience and it doesn't apply to everything, just some of what I've seen and been part of)
Sometimes, in religions and belief communities in general build up a set of rules, a reasoning that somehow doesn't look like it fits with the general view of the belief or religion. Let me explain with a past example I've been part of:
Otherkin, I was part of an otherkin community quite a few years ago and at first it was a very critical community, when someone joined up, the advice was strong, questions were answered but a "no bullshit" policy was in affect to ensure that noone started believing anything their mind could come up with. Slowly though, that changed, more and more members joined that didn't agree with this and at a certain point this policy was demolished and literally "anyone" was allowed to join the group.
Now that wouldn't be a problem by itself, the problem came when anything those anyones could think of, was automatically accepted because,(and this is what was said) "its their own experience, we can't disagree with what they believe based on their experience".. It shocked me a bit because it got really crazy at that point. It was at that point that D&D got taken into the whole "experience" and other things got added that were just ludicrous.
And now comes the real point, because I remember getting into fights on the forum seeing as I noticed what was going on, and challenged this idea, this "accept all, whatever they believe, la la la" rule.. And I just now realize that eventhough my words were logical and I made good points.. It wasn't the message that caused them to dislike me and expelle me.. It was the fact that I didn't agree with the system.. The message wasn't important, I became someone that could potentially hurt the system, the "society" or "group" by being against the current new reasoning. The fights grew heavier and at some point I left, having had enough of it.
Now this is seen in some christian and other religious communities as well, I've spoken to a christian friend with a lot of connections and experience with many different church and religious streams and although we didn't talk about that specific topic.. I do now remember talking about people who were "against" the system just by having a different opinion.. In some cases even being called "possesedby evil" if they thought the current system didn't work.. At such a point, the message didn't matter anymore either, the person was against the "system" and that was bad enough.
Now once again, this isn't so for all churches or communities.. But its true for some. Any opinions ? |

| Teach the controversy |
[Aug. 6th, 2008|12:10 pm] |
More on this subject as I keep hearing more and more about it.. Its the relatively new push in the american states where instead of adding "intelligent design" to the science class room... People are trying to push in "critical analysis" and "even treatment of pro's and con's" of evolutionary theory in the scientific classrooms.
What this effectively says is that teachers should not only speak about what supports evolution and evolutionary theory but they should also talk about "what they think" are weaknesses and holes in the theory...... And on top of that, students should be able to make out "for themselves" what makes evolution strong or weak.
The problem with such a system is that it allows debate on subjects that really shouldn't be debated by students who are getting their first glimpse of scientific theories.. It's like inviting a local janitor to clean up a reactor core.... Sure it can go right and perhaps the man is smart enough to handle the expensive equipment with care... But depending on where they got the janitor from, it could also end in kaboom.
Among scientists there is no "controversy" on evolution, sure there are details that are a bit vague and there are points here and there that surely could use reinforcement and a little change... But the controversy as it is shown in the news, is not present among scientists because frankly, "they know better".
To basically allow students with only a wobbly grasp of the theory, to actually criticise the theory on a scientific level is bonkers, they don't have the experience, it takes years of studying into their respective fields to fully grasp the details going on in that field. For a student that is just starting to learn about the basics of evolutionary theory and has had no actual practical experience.. It's basically a wish for trouble.
Students are brainwashable, if a teacher points them towards certain literature that amplifies holes and problems of a theories, its not hard to understand that those students will trust in that... Most students I know don't take the time to study further then they absolutely have to. They need certain specifics to pass a test and thats it.
Are you really going to trust these students to figure out evolution by themselves if they perhaps have no passion for it beyond what the teacher tells them to study ?
I think not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another quick topic and this is the idiocy of expanding theories just so a broader range can be "refuted"... Its called a "straw man" people..
Evolutionary theory equals "life evolving from life, evolving in this case meaning the change in random heridetary traits selected through natural selection and other means".
A lot of people like to add the "start of the universe" and "the forming of the first reproducing cell" to that list, as though evolution has anything to do with those.
But its rediculous, because no matter if the world was formed by the big bang or a god or the flying spaghetti monster (etc) and no matter if the first reproducing cell was abiogenesis or god or the flying spaghetti monster (etc), it won't change the fact that we can study todays animals and the dna of todays and deceased animals and the fossils of these animals and more stuff.
How the first cell formed is useless to the theory of evolution... In analogy its as usefull to the theory, as knowing how cheese is made is usefull to you eating it, it won't really change the way you eat your cheese and it definitely won't matter if you know how the cheese is made or not.. |

| Teach the controversy |
[May. 14th, 2008|12:15 pm] |
Another new tactic being used is the "teach the controversy" where in ID and CS proponents explain that to be unbiased, the science classroom has to teach not just evolution but its alternatives as well.
Its a rediculous statement that in the eye of the masses makes it look like there is a valid alternative for evolution but scientifically there isn't, there is a group of people who wish they had a valid alternative and that same group of people is the same that is trying to push pseudo science as though it were real science.
We've got multiple factors dealing with why teaching the controversy is bollocks:
1. Why is teaching the controversy only applicable to intelligent design and/or creation science ? Have the proponents forgotten about the other mayor religions, or perhaps about other scientific topics like chemistry. Where the controversy might be alchemy. Or perhaps astronomy vs astrology.. It is unfair to single out a topic like evolution, missrepresent it and then only demand teaching the "controversy" on just that single topic, this shows a gigantic agenda that is not so much meant to teach alternatives, but just their religious views in the classroom.
2. You need something to teach to be able to teach the controversy, every single article and topic is simply evolution bashing.. There is no possible evidence for creation science and there is no positive evidence for intelligent design either.. The closest that they get is a very simple "magic man done it". As you may well realize, saying magic man done it is not only bad science, its bad logic, it stops all research while in science to understand something, research is used to better our knowledge. Magic man done it stops this effectively.
And now I'm tired of this.. Signing out. |

| ID and CS |
[May. 13th, 2008|12:01 pm] |
The intelligent design proponents and the Creation science proponents are playing a new political game since they lost any and all attempts to inject their pseudo science into the scientific classroom. They were obviously denied this for their complete and utter lack of any peer reviewed scientific evidence for intelligent design or creationism. So they are taking it to a different level.
When you can't beat the system, blame it on the system.
Both groups are now playing a "we are singled out and don't even get a chance" game, meaning that that they are now trying to convince the public that they are doing honest science but because its not mainstream they aren't accepted and prejeduced against. Wonderfull really, apparantly for ID having had 40 years of time so far was not enough to produce any evidence of their viewpoint and for Creation science it was even longer. Its a very political game now where it isn't about science anymore, it's about who can cry the hardest.
And its all so silly, the mass public of america seems to be half-half swallowing the story, with movies like "expelled, no intelligence allowed" coming out that actually did horrible in the cinema's but obviously thats more of the worlds prejudice against intelligent design.
Mostly though, its silly because science is filled with new ideas that are being tested and introduced constantly, the higgs bossos particle. This is a highly contraversial particle that can renew and change the way we look upon the worlds electromagnetic force and weak force that determine a lot of the correlation of our our atoms. Scientists are of course discussing the possibilities in both directions, because if it doesn't exist, then a whole renewal of the theory is in order, large changes because current models build upon the existence of the higgs boson.
Science embraces these differences and isn't trying to stop any changes, no science is looking for a more accurate way to describe the universe and everything in it and that means progress and change... This is true for all fields of science.
ID and CS proponents are playing the sympathy game and it'll be a dark day for us all if they win in that manner. |
